East-African School for Young Researchers on Advanced Machine Learning Techniques
The Department of Physics is excited to announce the East-African School for Young Researchers on Advanced Machine Learning Techniques (EASY-ML), which will take place from July 9-22, 2025.
This program provides clear training in advanced computational techniques and machine learning. It will help young researchers in East Africa to use machine learning (ML) in their disciplines. The goal is to foster innovative research and improve problem-solving skills.
The target audience is MSc and PhD students as well as young researchers from East-Africa, from a wide range of research fields including chemistry, physics, geoscience, environmental science, etc.
The training will be divided into practicals and lectures by highly-skilled researchers from Africa and Europe. The lectures will cover a range of topics, from Ethics in Artificial Intelligence and basics in Machine Learning to advanced ML techniques. Attendees will have the opportunity to work with PyTorch during practicals and to apply ML on specific case studies.
We are planning a poster session dedicated to related studies or specific case studies, especially those that are in progress and require further discussion. We welcome contributions from students and researchers who are interested in sharing their plans and unfinished work with the community.
We invite you to join us for this exciting workshop, where you will learn from leading experts, gain hands-on experience in ML techniques, and connect with fellow researchers in other disciplines. Seize this opportunity to advance your skills and knowledge in Machine Learning thereby contributing to a long-term capacity building in East African universities!
