Wednesday 18th December 2024, the University of Nairobi Council concluded its 3-day  tour across all 10 faculties, marking the beginning of a new strategic direction for Kenya’s premier institution. The Council, led by the head of the delegation; Mrs. Carren K. Omwenga, alongside Ahmed Sheikh Abdullahi, Dr. Parmain Ole-Narikae, Dr. Sally N. Toroitich, and Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Margaret Hutchinson, engaged with academic and support staff, students, and administrators to celebrate milestones, address challenges, and chart a transformative path forward.

The tour emphasized the need for modern technology, improved infrastructure, and strategic partnerships to elevate the university’s academic and research output. At the Faculty of Built Environment and Design, discussions centered on pioneering affordable housing solutions, while the Faculty of Arts highlighted critical needs such as enhanced facilities and internet connectivity. In the Faculty of Engineering, the focus shifted to strengthening research-teaching integration and addressing staffing challenges.

The Council acknowledged the resilience of faculty and staff, who continue to uphold excellence despite resource constraints. Moving forward, the university will adopt a results-driven approach, leveraging on alumni networks, donor partnerships, and innovative policies to reclaim its position as a leader in higher education.

As the visit concludes, hope resonates across the University of Nairobi. With renewed determination, the institution embarks on a journey to restore its legacy and redefine its role in shaping Kenya’s future.
